Funky week. No time for anything. Have mini councils with President like 2 times a week, have to make time for studies otherwise we don't get them, make time for planning, forget about having time to eat, haha it's crazy awesome! Probably what real life will feel like! We have a goal that is the deepest desire of our hearts. It's to bring a family of 5 into the waters of baptism and help them become covenant keeping saints! Anywho we have 3 progressingish investigators. David, Wanjiru and Thomas. Thomas' mom won't let him get baptized. We got to go to the temple today! It was awesome. My companion and I did initiatories. First time since the first time I did mine. They are actually way cool. Something I was reminded of today is that we have living prophets today! They are true messengers. As we listen and act on their guidance our loves will be filled with peace and joy. I love you all!

Out his new apartment window, Pictures of Matt and his new companion welcoming in the newly arriving missionaries. I will miss the Bronx! I got transferred to the New Rochelle 2nd ward. It will be awesome! My new companions name is Elder Aurich from AZ. He's a super star in the mission. Super hard worker and loves the work! It will be a good transferred for sure.
That is all we got from Elder Murray this week. He was called to be an AP (assistant to the president) and he had a very busy day. I love life. Yesterday we had one of the most efficient days of my mission this far. It felt so good. We just turned ourselves over to the Lord! We talked with everyone and opened our mouths and straight up preached! I love I preach my gospel in chapter 9 it says:
"you will need to be able to present a message in a minute or less... Avoid the tendency to say things such as, “Do you have a few minutes that we could teach you a message about …” Rather, develop the habit of immediately beginning to teach and testify as you meet people." We took this to heart yesterday and it was awesome. We talked to so many cool people! We have this thing called a New York minute. You basically just jump right in to teaching the message of the restoration! I love talking to people and letting them hold a copy of the fresh off the press book of Mormon. We'll ask them to read part of the introduction or a verse that is applicable to them and watching their expressions! It's so cool! I was reading Alma chapter 17 this morning and just to do a little recap of the story, there are Nephites and Lamanites. Nephites are good, Lamanites are bad. Ammon and his brothers who are Nephites, go and decide to preach the gospel to the Lamanites. Who, as they describe them in the scriptures, murder and plunder so they don't have to labor with their own hands. Ammon makes his way over into the Lamanites land and the Lamanites capture him, tie him up, and bring him before the King. The kings name is Lamoni. He will decide whether or not Ammon will be killed. Ammon tells the king that he wants to stay around and be his servant. The King likes the idea of that and lets him be his servant. At this point there is a trend in the fields. The servants who watch over King Lamoni's sheep in the field always get killed because this group of Lamanites from another tribe keep coming over and scattering their flocks. 27 Therefore, as Ammon and the servants of the king were driving forth their flocks to this place of water, behold, a certain number of the Lamanites, who had been with their flocks to water, stood and scattered the flocks of Ammon and the servants of the king, and they scattered them insomuch that they fled many ways. 28 Now the servants of the king began to murmur, saying: Now the king will slay us, as he has our brethren because their flocks were scattered by the wickedness of these men. And they began to weep exceedingly, saying: Behold, our flocks are scattered already. 29 Now they wept because of the fear of being slain. Now when Ammon saw this his heart was swollen within him with joy; for, said he, I will show forth my power unto these my fellow-servants, or the power which is in me, in restoring these flocks unto the king, that I may win the hearts of these my fellow-servants, that I may lead them to believe in my words. I love this! When things go wrong we can always rejoice! We know how to be agents for change and use our agency go always get back up. I love you all and I love this restored gospel!!! Elder Murray This week was great! Highlight of the week had to be district meeting and then interviews with President. There were were 13 People at district meeting this week and oh man pressures on. President even got to come! Seriously love him. During my interview I asked him what I could improve on and it was great. He gave me some really good feedback and I'm excited for district meeting next week!
Something cool happened yesterday! I was listening to President Nelsons last talk about the Book of Mormon and in his talk he says: "When I think of the Book of Mormon, I think of the word power. The truths of the Book of Mormon have the power to heal, comfort, restore, succor, strengthen, console, and cheer our souls." We were reading the Book of Mormon with this man we contacted on the street and we had him read Helaman 5:12 and I asked him what he felt as he read. All he said was I feel power as I read. It was a super cool experience to testify that I felt it too! There is power in the Book of Mormon! President Nelson is a prophet that is called of God! This week we've been having a blast just getting out of our comfort zones! I love what Elder Morris said in his weekly this week. Fears are so superficial! It's so true! We were walking down the street and we passed this lady who had just lit a cigarette. I felt prompted to ask her when the last time she tried to quit smoking was! I was terrified to do it but hey! Why not?! I don't have anything to lose and she might quit! So I asked her and at first she was not having it. But after asking some question we found that she had a strong belief in Jesus Christ. We asked her if she thought he could help her overcome her addiction. She said she knows he can. And we testified to her that we know that He can too. Then we explained to her the importance of of our message! She gladly gave us her number and address and we have an appointment with her and hopefully her family on Saturday! I love being a missionary. It's awesome. I love y'all! In my studies I was reading over 2 Nephi 28 and dc 130. In 2 Nephi 28:30 it talks about how the Lord teaches line upon line precept upon precept and the spirit taught me the precept upon precept can be changed to prompting upon prompting. Each time we act on a prompting we get taught something and we are given a little more wisdom which we can take with us up into the next life like it talks about in D&C 130. I love those chapters! Sorry I forgot to take pics. Elder Murray |
